Dear friends,

Things have slowed down on the blog front for a two reasons.

The first is that I'm writing my thesis. The first full draft is due on Friday. It's coming along well, but I still don't have a lot of time for things like the homework in my other classes or writing on a blog. The draft is due Friday, after that I will have time for writing about things for the blog as I get caught up in my other classes.

The other problem has been that my computer self-destructed. It was, as it has been four other times, the logic board. Apple agreed that if I send it to them for repair it is likely to just have the same problem again soon. After buring through five logic boards in less than two years, they agreed to replace the whole computer with a brand new Mac Book. It may not be here until early next week, so until then my computer time will be limited.

Also, my thesis was inside my computer when it died. For a couple hours it looked like I would be starting over. It turns out, though, that you can use "fire wire cable" to take things off the hard drive of a computer (even one whose logic board is destroyed) an put them on another computer. It was pretty thrilling. I saved my thesis work (drafts, interviews notes, research material) and the fourth season of The Wire. I was so relieved I took the rest of the day off from doing any work at all.

More later.

Love,
Bryan

Holy shit, I can't even imagine how much you must have been freaking out about possibly losing your thesis. My first semester of school (when my laptop was ALSO having numerous logic board problems) I was inconsolable about possibly losing, like, 3 pages of a paper I was writing. Even the thought of being in your position and losing my thesis makes my heart flutter.

I'm glad you still have it and that Apple is replacing your computer. I love my MacBook that they gave me last summer. Good luck on finishing.
