This kind of thing makes me wish I followed the local politics more carefully. I saw the new chief of the Austin Police Department Art Acevedo interviewed on the NBC affiliate's local news last night.
He seems like he's sincerely excited and honored to be selected. He comes from the California Highway Patrol. That organization must be a real hornet's nest if he's excited to jump right in to Austin's problems, which include occasional (and recent) police shootings of unarmed black people and tensions between the police union and administration.
He's also bilingual, which seems like a good trait for a Texas police chief.
